Falling in Style

I think most people have had a falling dream. I know I've had them in all different forms, and they make excellent nightmares because I'm afraid of flying and heights. I've had some pretty terrible dreams involving falls and drops, including driving cars off of heights and airplane crashes.

I read somewhere that if you have a falling dream, and you hit the ground, you actually die. Not that I believe that, because I've hit the ground in dreams several times. Including last night. I had an awesome falling dream last night. It was like a freaking superhero movie.

I vaguely remember some sort of plot to the dream, but I can't put my finger on what it was about...but the main feature of the dream was that I had this giant mechanical pair of wings like something out of a fantasy novel. They were big and white and I could control them once I put them on. Their specific purpose wasn't magical or anything like that: they were just designed for jumping off buildings for thrills.

I first used them jumping off a big, old building in a city with gothic architecture. I remember it was the sixty-sixth floor, and the ground below looked rather far away (no kidding). My dad and brother had wings, too, and were using them. I somehow managed to overcome my fear of heights, put perhaps too much faith in an imaginary pair of mechanical wings and just leapt out into the air. It took a few minutes for the wings to catch the air, and then I pretty much flew, all the way to the ground, where I landed with a thud, alive and much happier than when I got off my first roller coaster.

I'm not sure why exactly my brain made up such a self-destructive purpose for these wings in my dream, but it was really freaking coooooooool! It was a new sport. The second time I used them was inside a hotel like the Luxor in Las Vegas, where you can see all the way up to the top. I landed in the middle of a dance floor at this wedding I was supposed to be crashing.

I think I know partially where this stuff came from: maybe one too many Maximum Ride novels, and probably this.

And no, I don't have any hidden desires to jump off a building or crash a wedding. That was just dream drama.

Awesome! For some reason, I never have falling dreams. Hum.

I heard that too, about dying when you hit the ground. Someone said it was because your brain thinks you're dead... but that doesn't really make much sense to me...
